James Justin

It was clear he will be a scapegoat, Chilwell was so popular, whoever replaces him was always going to be in for a hiding.

Every time he makes one mistake people are going to jump on him.  Yet Chilwell made 10+ a game, and if you dared mention it, his team would jump on you.

Every player's performance fluctuates.  JJ has had some very good performances.  Today he was poor.  That doesn't make him a bad player.

He has some way to go (further than some of the others) but there is clearly a player in there.

People are so reactionary, Justin's done fine since he's been playing. We all know he's the backup fullback to Ricardo and Castagne and as far as back ups go he's pretty good.

Completely disagree. Other than a good second half against Man City, he's been poor this season.

Not physically strong enough and positioning is atrocious.

the lad has shown plenty of ability and is worth the time and effort to persevere with him. also he is neither first choice LB or RB assuming everyone is fit.

finished article premier league players dont cost £8m from Luton

if we dont give players time to improve then we might as well forget it, because u cant expect a 25 man squad of first team quality players bought 'off the peg'

He's cost a couple of goals sure but he's also made atleast a couple and scored one so balances itself out really. Personally don't think we can ask for much more from a 2nd choice player.

Our fullbacks for some reason today didn’t drive forwards like they have been doing, they have been the key to our success so far!

They blocked the space out wide and forced us in the middle where we only had two midfielders that's why imo

The whole point of squad players is that they are starting options when better players are injured and at the moment Ricardo is injured. so your statement is a bit of contradiction.

Dunno. Feel like squad player can be someone who comes in as and when there's an injury, they shouldn't be relied upon to start more than 5-10 games a year.

Indeed

Important points to note to those who’ve declared “he’s not good enough”

- he wasn’t good enough in his last game (agreed)

- He was plenty good enough in many other games he’s played in

- He’s young with plenty of opportunity to develop and improve under a proven coach

I think he’ll come good and he’s shown enough to deserve our patience

He really needs to spend a bit of time in the gym needs to bulk up a bit far too lightweight easily pushed of the ball but other than that not bad for a lad who came in from Luton cost us only £8m, the lad needs a bit more guidance game time I think he’ll be ok in the future !

Tbh I've been reasonably impressed with him. I'm always up for cutting new and young players some slack. If Under had been naff the other day, I wouldn't have held it against him. JJ is 22 and in a run of top flight games where he's not made consistent howlers. Considering what his job is and he's not floundering completely, I'd say I'm fairly happy.

You can't predict how many players or will get injured or for how long. It's poitless saying squad players shouldn't shouldn't play more than x amount of games because you never know when you might have a long term Injury like Ricardo's. In an ideal world Justin would be on the bench and Castagne and Ricardo would be starting but hey ho.

Ideally he wouldn't have been thrown in the deep end but he's handled it excellently in my opinion. When you consider that we're asking an already inexperienced right back to fill in a left back for a team aiming for the top 4 in a league that's two divisions higher than he was playing a year or so ago - JJ has been impressive. Not least the fact that we're missing arguably the best full back in the league, only highlighting his weaknesses further. He's not great positionally yet, but it's noticeable that he's not as good on the left at this level - something he hopefully won't need to do for too much longer in PL at least.

People might well be reactionary but in the context you are writing  the word is “ reactive” . There is a difference and you’re not the only poster to confuse the two - you’re welcome
