Kasper Schmeichel...

His distribution is actually ok for me. Obviously an exception at one point last night, but always a risk when asked to play that way. If he had a more physical presence to aim for he would look a lot better. Angling every kick to a slender 6ft left back is never the ideal.

His distribution remains shit. He puts us into trouble at least once a game with a stupid ball. Yesterday putting Hamza under pressure, who had two players on him, in the centre of the pitch about 20 yards away from goal.

If the pass goes straight to him there's no issue. It was the misplaced pass which was wrong, not the choice to play it to Hamza.

i mean that is just a normal kasper performance isn't it?

some superb saves, a lot of moaning, scared to come out for crosses and completed more passes to their centre forwards than to ours.

not sure what the fuss is about. still doesn't seem to understand the game of football but does make some very good saves so fair play.

From the Guardian of a week ago :

Schmeichel a consistency unmatched

Things could have been very different in the career of Kasper Schmeichel after he left Manchester City back in 2009 to recently-monied Notts County in League Two, as City looked away from homegrown stars to more expensive acquisitions. In Nottingham, Schmeichel got games under his belt, even if the club went nowhere. It was easy to see such a level was way below the Dane’s talents ever since he has been a beacon of quality and consistency for whichever team he played for, proving it once more with a stunning performance against his first club on Saturday, including a fine penalty save. Not only is he one of the league’s best goalkeeper’s but also the most inspiring of leaders and he would not be out of place as Manchester City’s No 1 over a decade after leaving but he looks very content with his lot.

Interesting to hear what Sven said about him and Joe Hart last night. He decided to keep Hart as the number one (Schmeichel started the season at Man City as the first choice then went out on several loans before leaving) but, given the chance again, he may have waited and kept Kasper instead.

Schmeichel is five months older than Hart yet presently their careers are far apart- one is clear first choice for his country after a great World Cup with another tournament on the way whilst playing every match for his club seemingly set for the Champions League, the other long forgotten internationally whilst barely playing for a mid-table side.

Schmeichel seems to have his future set and it looks promising (whatever we think of his qualities/ issues), yet Hart's top flight career looks done. Sven's time wasn't hugely positive but getting Schmeichel in was a definite plus.

Has he ever had an easier nights work than last night? They had 4 touches inside our box, it was as 1 sided a performance as I can remember. Even vs Southampton there were a couple of moments where Schmeichel was tested. Bar that clumsy scuff by Samatta at the far post that went wide early on, they did absolutely nothing.

Surprisingly picked by Sven in his all time non England team of player's his managed - the shock on Carragher's face was priceless :D

Great servant to the club & vastly underrated compared to other club idols
