I suppose the club might be trying their luck because if he signs we can still sell him and get a fee. I doubt it's because they want him to stay. Just as players sign contracts when things are going well and you know full well they won't be here for the full duration of the deal.
majaco Posted 12 December 2020 Posted 12 December 2020 Part of his absence from match squads is his refusal to sign a contract then. He is skillful and pace at his best. He does make the wrong decisions. My fear would be him doing really well for someone else. But I wouldn't put him in our first team.

Gray was given chance after chance and never strung two decent performances together. Gray and Chilwell are on two completely different levels in terms of football ability. Chilwell became that because Puel stuck with him through thick and thin, despite having some howlers along the way. I'm not saying Gray would have had the same upward trajectory as Chilwell but I just wonder how much better he would have been as a player if he started 10-15 games in a row. Or perhaps if he had gone out on loan. As I said earlier, Gray is poor but it didn't help his development that he's had 93 sub appearances in 168 games.

Bob Weasel Fox Posted 12 December 2020 Posted 12 December 2020 Guaranteed he will do the Leicester thing and come back to score against us Can see him actually doing ok at another club sadly 1
Koke Posted 12 December 2020 Posted 12 December 2020 (edited) Cardiff away Everton home Man Utd away, put it in the top corner Brighton away, he had an assist + he had a couple of good displays against lower league opposition in the Cup (Leeds, Sheffield United etc). Yeah not many memorable games. At the time it was a punt worth taking for a couple of £ millions. Edited 12 December 2020 by Koke

Of course this follows on from Chilwell who got similar treatment, again I have no idea why. He's not doing too bad now is he. When Gray has gone, I wonder who the next player will be to attract all the vitriol of the football experts on this forum. Perhaps we could start a sweep on it. Even more amazing is that the completely useless Nacho seems to be idolised by most. Baffling I find it depressing that you’re abusing one of our players in this way. 7 1 1

Corky Posted 12 December 2020 Posted 12 December 2020 A very underwhelming five years. Glimpses of promise, there is some talent but he's not been a regular and with good reason. Best for all parties if he moves on.
BenTheFox Posted 12 December 2020 Posted 12 December 2020 He was worth the punt, but it's not worked out for him. If I was him I'd be looking at going to a Newcastle, Leeds, Brighton etc. or even France or Germany instead of going to Tottenham, if he's serious about getting his career on track. I do think he's got talent but it's been clear for a couple of years that it wasn't going to happen for him here. 1
breadandcheesebrother Posted 12 December 2020 Posted 12 December 2020 If anything it went on for too long. The time spent developing gray could have been spent on other signings or bringing in youth players. That was probably clear 18 months ago and not a lot changed since then. Good luck to him and I hope he finds regular first team football at his next club.
tetly Posted 12 December 2020 Posted 12 December 2020 It’s a shame because he is obviously talented, he hasn’t really improved since we signed him. He may well do well else where but he has had enough changes here.
Guest Posted 12 December 2020 Posted 12 December 2020 Best of luck to him. If he's ever a regular at Premier League level I'll be surprised
MarriedaLeicesterGirl Posted 12 December 2020 Posted 12 December 2020 He played and scored from a free kick for the U23's today. I noticed the Twitter feed didn't use his photo after he scored, which is unusual.
FoxinNotts Posted 12 December 2020 Posted 12 December 2020 He’s on his way out of the club. It’s a shame as I think he’s very very talented. Just couldn’t seem to show it on a consistent enough level. I like him and his style of play. Rodgers doesn’t rate him. He doesn’t want to sign a new contract, so he’s off. He’ll probably do well else where in the prem. probably come back to haunt us
Babylon Posted 12 December 2020 Posted 12 December 2020 There is a player in there somewhere, but the only way it comes out is if he goes somewhere and plays week in and week out. He needs to go someway down the league to get that, it’s just whether his ego will allow that.

LestaAl Posted 12 December 2020 Posted 12 December 2020 Has he gone yet?.......sure I said that 12 months ago.

South Shire Fox Posted 12 December 2020 Posted 12 December 2020 Best for all parties that he leaves but good luck to him. Hopefully he’ll end up going to a lower end prem team where he can play regulary and kick on. Certainly doesnt deserve abuse on his future return to the KP. Will still always go down as a member of that title side. 2
Jazzy_Jeff Posted 13 December 2020 Posted 13 December 2020 He should go to Celtic - chuck him at them in jan as part exchange for Eduoard
Bob Farley Posted 13 December 2020 Posted 13 December 2020 Didn’t we turn down £25million from Bournemouth for him once upon a time 😬

DG and his agent know what they're doing.
