But we all know what’s coming with Russell, a way more extreme version of what Cardiff produced last season. 
 

I think heavy possession systems still have their place in football, but I mentioned it on here numerous times last season, you were starting to see a real shift in 24/25 where more teams looked to go fast and direct. 
 

Cardiff showed it can still work, but with the changes we’re likely to see in our squad, it’s going to take probably a 10/10 transfer window to potentially make it work. 
 

It’s just a shame this board are obsessed with being a poundland Man City, when Iraola’s Bournemouth have been the best team to watch in the Premier League in recent years imo.

But their form also dropped off a cliff second half of the season ala Enzo at Leicester. 
 

For me, if you are going to make such an appointment anything other than champions is sackable. I’d also expect top half in the championship next season. 
 

This is no sustainable appointment

You have my sympathies. I wouldn't wish Russell Martin on Cardiff. Tactically insane, arrogant, thin skinned and utterly incapable of self reflection or accepting responsibility for anything. Easily the worst manager we've had in my lifetime, and we once appointed someone from Cradley Town youth team.

Expect him to fall out with several players, your defence to concede ludicrously poor goals as a result of avoidable errors, and to wonder why so many other players are playing out of position. He'll make you question your own sanity sometimes with just how ridiculous he is.

There’s a big chance that our mob will struggle with taking on board the instructions, that seemed to be an issue with Marti. They seem to latch onto the safety first / caution part then struggle to come out of that shell and have any positivity when trying to go forward. Those early goals conceded, players going over for a briefing 10 mins into a game when you’ve had all week to sort yourselves out, Winks gesturing that everyone else was in the wrong bar him (when under no pressure he hooked a ball out of play and blamed it on the non movement of a player 20 yards away from it). There will be a lot of shrugging, pointing and arguing, they’re league 1 players for a reason the decision making and game intelligence will be inadequate resulting in some keystone cops calamities and frustration all round.

I think that's an astute summary. It's a system where everyone needs to fit, or it doesn't work. Which unfortunately is probably more difficult to find at a lower level.

Don’t understand that argument tbh.

 

At the end of the day, they achieved promotion by successfully playing a possession heavy system for most of a League 1 season. 90 goals, +40 goal difference, 91 points, nothing wrong with that.

 

It will be interesting to see how they fare in the Championship though and how long things last. 
 

Like any successful team, things can work if the recruitment is right, something which we’ve pretty much consistently failed on since 21/22.

 

Is it sustainable? Who knows, but whether successful or not, I don’t really want to see us try and sustain it, because the style of football is bloody boring, but under King Power leadership, it’s highly unlikely anything will change.

Whose to say it's a fantasy - it might be in the contract. That's why it's taking so long - can't agree if it's just the one or both he can have delight with.

I watched his final interview when at Rangers on the BBC site.  It's actually really insightful.  He obviously has a very good football brain and knows A LOT about the technical aspects to the game, he was talking about:

 

1. The need to score more goals

2. The need to concede fewer goals

3. That wins are better than draws, and they need more wins.

 

Genius.

 

Nothing to worry about here.

If we, as supporters are so understandably negative about this, given what we know about his track record, imagine what the players are thinking having experienced the clueless tactics of Cifuentes, RVN and Cooper

 

He's got a huge task to get them on board.

 

From what I've seen of him in interviews he has the charisma of a frog. 

 

He must be hung like a donkey to pull Lucy Pinder. 

 

Mind you, having said that, she's hardly a MENSA candidate.

99% possession doesn't win games. Goals do.
