With the secrecy that King Power likes to cover all their operations in, it wouldn’t surprise me if this  news wasnt coming out until AFTER extensive negotiations had already taken place…

Seeing as this was first mentioned in the FT, and we’ve heard of a Middle East consortium, it’s highly likely this is Citigroup leaking it after one offer is in, or after no one has offered and they’re adding a layer of a believable lie, to generate interest.

Don't want to be a bearer of bad news but reports out here in Thailand are it's all fake news.

Hope they are wrong,

It would be very unlikely the FT to post a story without it being thoroughly fact checked and verified from multiple sources so think its pretty certain KP have asked Citi bank to look into it. The stuff with the unnamed middle Eastern investor though could be rubbish

I suppose from a sellers point of view, if word gets out you’re trying to sell, you’d be concerned buyers might try and low-ball you. I mean, we are not talking about a couple of grand on a car here, but millions and millions of pounds in price difference..

It would be such a substantially damaging claim that if there was no truth in it, the club would have released a statement condemning the 'news', if it was inaccurate

They are also selling because theyve properly messed it up both on the pitch and off the pitch financially.

The group of fans being rightfully annoyed by the downfall hasnt played a big role in them finally exploring selling  their own incompetence has lead to it  even if people refuse to believe it.

I am not sure they would, their stance has always been to keep quiet over all, real news or fake news

Nah, it's up for sale. To big to ignore. The FT would have consulted the club before their article. They are not sensationalist tabloid chasing headlines

So King Power sell us to unsuitable new owners because they're no longer fit to run the club and it's the fans fault?

They would also be to blame for selling us to the wrong people.

You’ve missed the point. My point is there is no satisfactory ownership arrangement that is going to come from KP divesting the club, because we don’t make sense to purchase. It’s about pragmatism.

I am not saying it's not true, Just as a response to your message about the fact that the club would have released a statement, I just don't think they do that with regards to to any noise (from any source)

For what it's worth I think it is true and there would no smoke without fire, also you are correct the FT is reputable and would have not posted something without there being something there

And - realistically- what do your foresee happening now assuming we’re sold?

I'm not sure there are any reputable journalists left, even the FT.

Sacking all the utterly useless, underqualified, overpromoted ****s who have been here for 10 years + behind the scenes would be an excellent start.

Fine. Then what?

What do you think is going to improve once some Kuwaiti air conditioning salesman buys us? Even if he’s as rich as Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos combined, we’re still hamstrung by the same financial regulations.

Of course we will be. But that's a massive oversimplification of why we have fallen so low, and frankly it's a total cop out. Some key factors:

- Leaving Jon Rudkin and Top to run things when neither of them had a clue what they were doing. Then actually further reinforcing the power of the likes of Rudkin, despite probably the 2 worst relegations in modern football history (in terms of capability vs the end result).

- Connected to the above, not being able to do a proper root and branch analysis of what went wrong, taking steps to remedy it. They've gradually dismantled all the good infrastructure/systems we had in place.

- Massively overspending on wages. And that's not a case of players not being as good as your hoped, but rather giving massive contracts to players who in no way ever commanded that kind of salary. Tielemans aside, there is not a single player where we needed to go and commit that kind of salary to in order to get them to come here. That's been verified with multiple stories of how we have negotiated salaries. Transfers go wrong and we couldn't keep the hit rate we had, but getting it so wrong on wages, is not excusable.

- And arguably the worst for me, the inability to ever capitalise commercially on our success. KP sponsoring us for so long with such a paltry amount was a big contributor. The fact that we did have a social media following way beyond any other club outside the top 6 (and in some cases bigger than Spurs for example), means there was literally 10 of £millions sat on the table year after year. How we sat so low in commercial income is baffling. Combine that with getting the stadium and seagrave back to front (stadium should have always been first as that was short-term and long-term ROI), it's borderline negligence.

Pro KP or anti KP, let's be clear; the club is dying so we need somebody to take us over to save us. So whilst any new owners can't wave a magic wand or spend billions on players, what they can do is invest in the infrastructure, on and off the pitch, which creates longer term sustainability and chances for success. All the things I've listed above, would never have happened or been solved if we had an ownership group that took some accountability or made executives accountable for their areas. It's like we'll get somebody who just cares about the bottom line, but if we do, it will absolutely ensure that we don't get into the same mess (in the unlikely event we ever get back to the place we were), because they can't afford to let it spiral into decline. Top neither cares about the football club, not the business aspect instead it's all about this misguided sense of duty to his father which was admirable at first, but has now left us in a situation where we're neither one nor the other
