That’s the big worry for me. Should be coming away from a 3-0 happy but there’s just so much not to like about how we play at the minute. It makes the losses even harder to accept.

How bad would you actually have to be to lose to that Wigan team? They had 2 absolute clear cut chances in first half. And you just know if they’d have taken them we wouldn’t have had any answers.

I’m never one to be doom and gloom after a win but you can’t ignore the cracks. I still think this squad should be top with no excuses. Martin has so much to do.

Until now… presumably.. ;)

Just sort of waiting for us to improve but it's not really happening.

The defence is still getting cut open after one half decent ball in behind. And we're still giving the ball away time and time again in poor areas of the pitch.

Think I just need to go to sleep and cheer up tomorrow morning 😅

3-0 at home against the worst team we’ve bet played in the league in our clubs history - I’m not getting excited about that and I’ve also just had to watch another 90 minutes of Thomas, Okoli and O’Hara.  Braybrooke probably MOTM and he only played 30 mins.  We finally got to see a few more minutes of Kanga and it was at left wingback when we could easily have given him half an hour in his own position - just so underwhelmed by what I’m seeing, that was like watching Sunday league division 4 where one team was less shit than the other - if they could finish we’d have been 2-1 down at half time and we know we don’t come back from that!

Wins a win but it still feels like we get away with it a bit. Defensively we are all over the place and over the course of the season against the better teams, we just won’t be able to keep the ball out the net.

The reaction to BDCR being giving the ball for the penalty was an absolute disgrace, pathetic from anyone that was involved in that. You only need to see his teammates reaction to him scoring which was great for me.

A good enough performance and a good win with a clean sheet. Wigan were absolutely pathetic in all fairness but you can only beat what’s in front of you.

Onto the next which will be a much harder game.

Completely agree.

Blokes around me cheering Chaplin being brought off too. Finding the performative negativity to be ****ing boring now. Why bother coming if you’re booing at 2/3-0?

Of our 12 games played, 8 have been against teams below us and we have only won 3 of them, we have played against 6 of the bottom 7 already too

After the Stevenage game 6 of our next 7 games will be against teams above us currently, really going to need to pull it together or we could be in for a dreadful run

I’m glad it’s not just me. I find it painful. I half think a lot of people just have wild expectations. Didn’t think Chaplin looked all that bad tonight? He’s had two injuries already this season and slowly working his way back up to speed, and he also actually looks like he at least cares. Which is what a lot of people have been crying out for.

Only 3 points off playoffs….

And think of the stupid points we’ve chucked away, 4 more points from MK and Barnsley alone puts us in the playoffs and a completely different complexion on the season.

Burns was at the penalty spot looking like he was going to take the pen, the ball was given to BDCR and a quite loud jeer went up. I just find it absolutely pathetic. Have your opinions or whatever, but don’t do that when your player is about to take a penalty kick.

It's been so long since I clapped passages of play or good spur-of-the-moment decisions by our players that it felt weird doing it tonight. No point in getting carried away; this was one of the worst opponents we will meet, but we were a class above. Of course, if we lose Page, Alves, and Braybrook in January we will be fooked.

3 more points from Notts County & Luton on top of that puts us top of the league.

Equally you could argue from our performances v Stockport and Plymouth that we might enjoy teams that want to play football against us rather than scrap and press

I'm not normally the optimistic type, tend to take a balanced view, but I'm a bit surprised by the negativity on here tonight.

Aside from two sloppy bits of play which they should have scored from, I thought there were lots of positives to take from the game.

Yes, Wigan were sh*te, but we've lost to several dreadful teams so far this season, and truth being told I've yet to watch a game and think that any of the opponents we've faced have been more than bang average. Even Oxford who put 4 past us at home were crap, we just happened to be worse.

Positives for me; clean sheet, 3 goals, a brace for Riis (we finally have a goalscorer), decent performances from Alves, Page, Smallbone, Okoli, Souttar, and McCarthy, nice cameos from Braybrooke and Kanga, a goal for Bobby (he needed that and you could see what it meant for the squad), and a worldie save from McCarthy.

The obvious areas for improvement were clearly the two former Ipswich lads. Chaplin looks nowhere the level he's capable of. I suspect he'll get there but desperately needs games to improve his sharpness and match fitness. As for Burns, he looks like a complete dud. At one point I completely forgot he was on the pitch such was how little impact he had on the game. Also, putting individual performances to the side, I really wished we'd stop trying to walk the ball into the net and take more shots. The amount of high quality chances we pass up by overplaying in good areas is driving me crazy.

Anyway, happy with the 3 points, and the form is at least improving so hopefully we secure another 3 points on Saturday and can put the Luton game down to a bad day at the office.

I mean, it's not like we have been camped on the edge of our opponents boxes waiting to break down a deep block

Every game we play our opponents get a handful of huge chances, we were extremely lucky not to concede multiple times today to literally the worst team in the league

Russell Martin's teams just always play shit ineffective football, it's who he is as a manager

I don’t disagree in the slightest.

Agreed, even as a certified hater I was uncomfortable listening to that, just unnecessarily mean spirited. He might be crap at footy but he has never acted in a way to warrant any abuse

I want to say I’m glad we won but I’m not because it keeps Martin here for a while longer. Yes I accept the ownership also needs going asap.
The football is beyond boring to watch and if Wigan could finish we’d have been behind at half time.
Genuine yawns around me during the first half and I include myself in that.
I want to say we improved massively second half and really controlled the game but I don’t think we did.
At one point during the second half I thought we were actually trying to see the game out at 1 nil against the side bottom of the league.

BDCR scoring and refusing to celebrate was wild.

Really proved us wrong, Bobby, after another crap display capped with a penalty against a rock bottom club.
