Literally NONE of the relegations we've suffered in the last 4 seasons would have happened. 

My one disagreement is that you can't dictate sporting results, promotion/relegation on the regulations we would be applying by, transfer fees, wage cost etc, look at Spurs. But, there is no doubt we would have been in a much stronger position than where we have ended up.

 

Its mad that the UEFA regulations, as much as our own are setup to keep the big teams the big teams, and Man City still had to break rules to remain at the top.

No, though we probably aren't at the front of the queue. United missed out on two titles, Liverpool one and Newcastle, Chelsea, Everton are the sides I see mentioned as having missed out on major European competitions during that time frame. They'll be claiming titles, 30-50m for European competition per season (each) and all the revenue that comes with it.

 

Our claim is still very strong, especially given what's happened to us since, and it's based on an idea enshrined in law that the advantages you build via cheating don't end when you stop cheating. It's also within the six year period for claims, though I suspect that will have to be wavered (meaning there is recourse for Liverpool and co.) when there have been no claims that could conceivably have been made until now.

 

I suspect the easy way out will also be the messiest. Punish Man City robustly for their historical advantage with relegation / fines / embargoes applied now, and leave the door open for similar individual compensation claims by other clubs. Let the EFL decide where to accommodate them, which probably won't be tier four, five or six. And try to retain the integrity of your competition by leaving past winners nominally, at least, intact. But the chances of people being happy with that are frankly zilch. And they may well be able to do something about it.

Putting aside what effect it had on us the real test of the mettle for the authorities is what punishment they have in mind for Man City. The perception is that clubs outside the usual suspects are easy to punish whatever they have been found guilty of. Chelsea got off lightly but surely Man City are way off the scale. But they are not Luton, Sheffield Wednesday, Leicester etc. Will the sentence suit the crimes?

Unfortunately, we’re about to be reminded what modern football really is. It is not a sport held together by a set of rules to maintain meaning and integrity, that’s for sure.

Relegation is just a punishment for the championship teams that they batter on the way to a points record title win.

What they did had no real bearing on us. We failed to finish in the top four from very comfortable positions, plus failed to receive transfer fees back for any number of expensive wasters. They didn't prevent us changing our approach and possibly bringing in a more effective Director of Football.
